First Global Industry Awards for Trading Card Games to Launch at SPIEL Essen 2026
To celebrate and honour the entire TCG landscape together with community and experts
Trading Card Games are more than products. They are culture, creativity, competition, community, and craftsmanship. Yet despite its scale, innovation, and cultural impact, there has never been a dedicated platform that formally recognizes this. There is now! The global Trading Card Game industry will receive its first dedicated international recognition to honour dedication and excellence in the TCG-world: the TCG Awards.
Initiated by Card Sports League GmbH and Hana Sports & Entertainment GmbH in partnership with Merz Verlag, organizer of SPIEL Essen, the worlds largest and most important fair for all tabletop games including trading cards, the TCG Awards establish a new institutional benchmark for excellence across the entire Trading Card Game ecosystem which will be celebrated at SPIEL Essen 2026 for the first time.
Recognizing Excellence Across the Entire Ecosystem
From groundbreaking games and sets to unforgettable events, outstanding local game stores, creators, players, artists, service providers, and industry partnerships these awards will cover the complete TCG landscape. The TCG Awards will honor excellence across 13 categories, spanning from Game of the Year to Equality Impact of the Year. They are designed to recognize measurable impact, innovation, and long-term influence — establishing transparent standards for excellence across the global TCG landscape.
A Structured Recognition Model for a Diverse Industry
The awards combine the voice of the global community with the expertise of an independent jury, ensuring that both passion and professional perspective shape the outcome. Players, fans, and all who are passionate about TCGs can enter cases into the award, as well as industry professionals, such as publishers, agencies, creators and many more.
To reflect the multifaceted nature of the TCG ecosystem, the awards are divided into two distinct types with clearly defined evaluation models:
Community Awards are driven by the global player and fan base. Nominations are submitted by the community during an open entry phase. Following the nomination period, shortlisted nominees advance to a final public voting round. The Top 3 finalists will be invited to the official TCG Awards Gala, where the winners will be revealed live.
Business Awards address the B2B segment of the industry. Brands, publishers, and organizations may formally apply through a structured submission process. Applications are reviewed and evaluated by an independent expert jury, which selects the Top 3 finalists per category. Winners are announced at the TCG Awards Gala. These awards are merit-based and focused on measurable impact.
The Road to SPIEL Essen 2026
The TCG Awards are set into motion. At the end of the journey, there will be a dedicated gala event at SPIEL Essen 2026, where the TCG community already gathers every year to celebrate their hobby and their passion together as well as showing their latest and greatest games or sets. The setting provides an international stage that reflects the global reach of the TCG community.
Meanwhile in the coming months the gremium of experts is being set up, industry players are invited to partake, and the community will get regular updates. As soon as cases can be entered, the category finalists are announced, and voting starts – in short for every important step of the way – information will be shared on the website, through social media, and of course through the community itself.
